ADD Similarities

 “These are examples of how ADD presents with uniquely different behaviors in a given child.  Although different,  each behavior is caused by the same type of brain dysregulation.  By the way, not every case that presents with symptoms like these three examples is ADD.  There are many other disorders that must be ruled out before an ADD diagnosis can be made and training started.  Disorders such as mental retardation, depression, anxiety, under- or over-stimulation in the environment, conduct disorders, grief, or anger should be considered before any treatment begins.     Some of these disorders are caused by an under- or over-arousal, but the treatment protol/regime may be completely different from that of ADD.  So we need to know what we are treating before we start.  We frequently find we are not dealing with one problem alone, but two or more problems combined.  This may necessitate a sequence of protocols to deal with the complexity of problems.” pp.14, 15.  From Getting Rid of Ritalin by Robert W.
