Genetic Brain Injury and Neurofeedback
“A genetic brain injury is an injury or a dysfunction that is passed from one generation to another. In working with ADD children we often feel we are working with second or third generation pathology. Because our office staff frequently gets to observe the parents while we are treating the child, it has become commonplace for us to ask them which parents of the ADD child has ADD. By watching their behavior in the waiting room, the office staff frequently observes ADD-characteristic behavior. Many times we have ended up treating both the child and a parent, and this usually produces a profound change in the family dynamics. After treatment, we no longer have a person with obvious ADD symptoms parenting a child with ADD symptoms, so things at home go more smoothly. In cases like this we usually recommend brief family therapy or parent training to go along with the neurofeedback.” pp. 39-40. Getting Rid of Ritalin by Robert Hill, Ph.D. and Eduardo Castro, M.D.
