ADD/ADHD, Holistic Intervention
A HOLISTIC INTERVENTION PLAN: “A theme that I stress throughout this book is that brainwave biofeedback is not a stand alone treatment. One can markedly improve the poor functioning of the brain of an ADHD child, for example, but still not see important changes in the child’s performance, family relationships, or personal sense of worth. Children with ADHD often develop major psychosocial dysfunctions because of their struggles with the disorder. To help the child with ADHD, the neurotherapist pays attention to family dynamics, the parenting skills of the parents, the self esteem of the child, the child’s relationship with peers, siblings, and teachers, and the child’s interests, skills, and concerns. In other words, the neurotherapist deals with the problem holistically, and the emphasis is on self regulation. Every effort is made to avoid pathologizing the child’s problems.” p.21.
