“Dr. Barry Sterman’s work had a profound impact on the development of a theoretical mode for ADD. His work consisted of using neurofeedback to train people with seizure disorders to produce different brainwaves, thereby reducing their seizure activity. Dr. Sterman demonstrated that people with the low frequency brainwave burst that produces seizures can be trained to produce higher frequency brainwaves.

Rather than producing excessive brainwaves in the slow four to seven hertz range, they were trained to produce more brainwaves in the area of 14 hertz. Since there are some common brainwave features between seizure disorders and ADD, Dr. Sterman’s work added more credibility to the theory that ADD is a functional disorder, involving the timing of the brain.” We see many ADD cases in our office and some seizure cases. Both benefit from neurofeedback.
